Pairing: Eunhyuk/Donghae (Eunhae) maybe more in future chapters.
Rating: PG-13 in this chapter
Summary: There is a mystery surrounding a monster that's turning people into werewolves and murdering them after their first shift, Eunhyuk is asked to investigate the issue with the help of the only victim that could be saved and brought into a pack. Too bad that Eunhyuk hates packs and Donghae has very bad instincts. AU of course
Warnings: Some violence, werewolves, bad words.
A/N: Hello! Welcome to a whole new chapter :D Sorry it took so long but this has been the first time in some time that i've been actually able to write something not related to my studies. I had incredible ammounts of fun writing this, I hope you enjoy it too! <3
Lee Hyukjae had done stupid things in his life, taken idiotic decisions and behaved like an overall jerk in more than one occasion. He was quite a normal guy in the fucking stuff up area of life.
When he woke up with Donghae profoundly asleep next to him still in his wolf form (which was rather cute, with all that chocolate hair and huge eyes), his mind decided to be a complete jerk and remind him everything he said while in the grasp of half conscious honesty.
So he did the sensible thing people with the social qualities of brick when facing those kinds of situations tended to do.
He panicked, ran away and went to find Hangeng.
Who, after hearing the story, also did the sensible thing.
He laughed for five straight minutes.
“You… you…” said the beta to Hyukjae “you… are… so… so… cute, Hyukjae.”
“I am not cute! Stop making fun of me, hyung! This is a very delicate situation.”
“No it’s not,” Said a finally sobered up Hangeng, although Hyukjae could still see an amused glint in his eyes “if this becomes a big deal, Hyukjae, it will be because you let it become so.”
“Are you honestly whining at me?”
“I’m not whining”
“Good, and since I know you’re not going to use all that energy you are bottling.” Hangeng laughed again at Hyukjae’s scandalized face “go and get those books, we have work to do, oh and get the puppy, I’m sure he’s not happy at you’re sudden act of braveness. And no whining.”
Hyukjae looked angrily at his friend “I don’t whine!”
“Sure you don’t, now go for your boy, you blue balled idiot.”
A huge pout was the first thing Hyukjae noticed when he found Donghae still sitting in the same place he left him, now as a human (a, sadly not naked one, his libido added) he looked even more like a kicked puppy than when he was…well, a puppy.
The wolf inside Hyukje provided him a gallery of solutions to make Donghae feel better, the wolf wasn’t very creative, so all the “solutions” could be summed up as a lot of fucking for extended amounts of time; Hyukjae wasn’t one to fuck people until bliss was found (if he did that his life would have been more exciting in the sex department), so he ignored the wolf, while trying to find a way to approach his sulking mate.
That was, for Hyukjae, extremely difficult given his, as established before, wall like qualities in the people management area.
He decided that maybe the wolf was a clever choice, and given that Donghae was a human, and he would be in his canine form, no fucking would be involved in the reconciliation.
He decided that neither Hyukjae the wolf nor Hyukjae the human were disappointed by this.
So he shifted.
After shifting he noticed that he forgot to take off his clothes, so he had ripped his shirt, his jeans, his socks looked weird covering his paws and his shoes were suddenly too big for him.
Oh, he also had his boxers still on.
Luckily the wolf despised clothes so he swiftly tore the socks off his paws (the human winced a little at that because he actually liked those socks), and was about to destroy the boxers when he noticed movement coming from Donghae’s direction.
He turned his head to find a very, very amused Donghae, looking at the wolf’s misery while laughing.
“What do we have here?” Said his mate while approaching Hyukjae what do you think it is, you idiot wanted to reply the wolf but it came out a pitiful whimper. “Hyukjae, why do you have your boxers still on?” another whimper “Do you need help with that?” the wolf studied Donghae for a few seconds before lowering his head, the younger, understanding the gesture quickly divested Hyukjae from the boxers.
It was, of course because those were actually kind of expensive.
After helping the wolf, Donghae got up and looked at Hyukjae. His body language was stiff and the awkwardness was palpable in the air “well… I guess I’ll leave you to… whatever you were doing, I’ll tell someone to get you some clothes OK?” The wolf barked and pawed at Donghae trying his best to look pleading. “What?” he barked again and tried to explain himself by running around Donghae like a mad…er… wolf. “You’re here for me?” Hyukjae stopped running and tilted his head up to look at Donghae then, he barked. Yes! “Why?” The wolf folded his ears behind his head and managed to look embarrassed. “You’re saying you’re sorry?” a low bark. Yes “Why did you run away, Hyukjae?” a whimper. I don’t want to tell you.
And suddenly Donghae’s face was really close to Hyukjae, looking at him, trying to understand; he sighed before continuing his apparent monologue. “Why don’t you trust me?”
And that was it.
That was the whole point of this… this mess, Hyukjae didn’t trust Donghae enough to tell him everything about them being mates, he didn’t trust Donghae because he was scared, he didn’t trust Donghae because he didn’t trust himself, he was scared because he didn’t trust the other to not feel used, to hate him if anything happened, he didn’t trust Donghae’s feelings to take a risk that big because he didn’t trust he wouldn’t break if his mate left him.
But the wolf knew, it knew beyond the human fears, and the insecurities and the sheer stupidity of all of it, it knew one thing, and that was the only thing that mattered;
That the one in front of him was his mate, and he hurt his mate by running away, nothing excused hurting his mate, and the pain, the doubts and the slight anger he saw and smelled on Donghae made his soul cry.
He licked the human’s cheek gently and started to walk towards the house, he felt some sort of relief when the other trotted a little to get next to Hyukjae and walk next to him.
“You know Hyukjae, I know you’re hiding something, and that it’s eating you alive, I don’t know how but I know… I feel it.” Hyukjae lowered his head, ashamed. Suddenly he felt soft fingers running through his back, his head snapped up to see Donghae caressing his fur gently while still walking “Actually, when you told me all of that when we were next to the river…” If wolves could blush he would be crimson red at that moment “I was really shocked, and then I felt… well… happy” And Donghae was actually blushing, Hyukjae felt like running away and pouncing the other at the same time “I know you told me those things because you were too tired to think about what you were saying, you were being honest, and I felt… I don’t know, like something clicked inside of me, like I wanted you to say that to me, like it was what I needed, and maybe it was, I was happy, Hyukjae, and then you ran away…” Hyukjae whimpered a little and lowered his head again “No, I get it, it can’t be easy to say those things, and it must be hard to notice you said it when you couldn’t control yourself, I don’t blame you, but also, as I couldn’t help feeling happy before, at that moment, when I woke up and you weren’t around, I felt… hurt, betrayed.” Donghae suddenly looked straight at Hyukjae, who even with his head low could feel the intensity of the gaze. “You know why I feel like this, don’t you?” A low bark. Yes. “Will you tell me?”
Hyukjae didn’t bark nor did he whimper. He didn’t emit a sound.
For the first time in years, Lee Hyukjae felt completely lost.
Hyukjae had to admit his relationship with Donghae was slightly fucked up.
They sorted out their feelings (kind of) only when the other was in wolf form (mostly and unintentional turn of events, but the fact that they were being emotionally deep with what looked like gigantic dogs was still there), even after sorting out said feelings, they still had no idea what would happen with them. And all of it was Hyukjae’s fault.
He made it difficult for both of them with his secrets, his fears, his insecurities and his distrust, he was being a hypocrite; he said he didn’t want to hurt Donghae when he actually was too scared to be hurt himself.
It was clear that something was going on with them; both admitted there were feelings, and even without that piece of information, their dynamics where clearly showing some feelings that were beyond friendship.
After they got to the house Hyukjae hurried back to his room, changed back, put some clothes on (he remembered they left his other clothes abandoned in the woods and made a mental note to go for them later), went down the stairs and met Donghae sitting in one of the couch of the living room.
Hyukjae looked at Donghae for a few seconds and then headed towards the door again.
“I have to go and get the books I left in the car, I will be back in a few minutes, Hangeng-hyung will be joining us in a few moments.” He took a deep breath “Oh, and Donghae?” he looked at the younger with a small smile “I would like to talk to you later, if you agree.” Donghae looked at Hyukjae for a few seconds and then smiled.
“Yes, of course.”
Hyukjae couldn’t help but think that it was the prettiest smile he had ever seen.
It was strange how everything could go to hell really quickly, almost in a breath or in a blink.
Life liked to remember people that even if they were allowed small moments of happiness, the bigger picture was there to fuck them over and over.
Life had a monstrous hard-on on Hyukjae, because every small moment of happiness he ever had was soon eclipsed by something bad; broken limbs, blood thirst, deaths of loved ones… Hyukjae couldn’t take a break.
The books were heavy and full of dust, some of the pages smelled like blood, others like pain and others felt dangerous; like they were hiding something terrible that could actually maim or kill if only looked at. He kind of regretted not taking Donghae with him to help, but at the same time he needed the short walk to sort his thoughts out.
He had to talk with the young werewolf; they had to sort this… thing out before it got too messy, before they got hurt. Hyukjae hated when Hangeng was right; their feelings were messing with the job, Hyukjae was restless and Donghae felt left out, it was not conductive to any sort of advance.
Hyukjae also wanted to tell Donghae everything, he was tired of choosing for the other, he was tired of being afraid, he wanted to be able to touch his mate freely, without the guilt of secrets, no matter what happened, he wanted to be completely honest, and that was a refreshing thought.
Because no matter what, Hyukjae knew that Donghae would never reject him, not completely, they were something and that something, after acknowledged, gave him the security that he wouldn’t be left behind, it was the mate thing, but it was something more, it was them, Donghae and Hyukjae, they made the choice, and for some reason, he was sure, that even as normal humans, without mating as such a constitutive instinct, they would still be able to find the way to encounter each other.
Hyukjae sighed, he was getting painfully cheesy; he could blame Donghae for that, though. After their talk he was almost sure he would be able to blame Donghae for a lot of things.
Smiling, he gathered the books and was a about to take them when he felt something strange, it was a call, something was calling him, and he couldn’t… didn’t want to ignore the call.
It was so beautiful and sad.
He walked, he couldn’t say for how long or in which direction, the call was strong and his brain felt foggy, his mind wasn’t exactly there, and he had only a few seconds of lucidity in which he thought of three things:
That was extremely unexpected.
Donghae was going to be really angry at him for missing that talk.
Life was a bitch.
Then, everything faded to black.
